The skinny on losing body fat in time for Summer
TOP TEN TIPS
1. Modify your diet. Start with the simple stuff - remove white sugar, use 'low fat' options for regular full fat foods and add more veggies with every meal.
2. Drink more water. Staying hydrated is crucial for burning fat. Thirst can masquerade as hunger, so before you eat have a glass of water.
3. Don't skip meals. Messes with your metabolism and messes with your head. Eat smaller meals, knowing that you are going to eat again in a couple of hours.
4. Taper carbohydrate intake off thoughout the day. Aim to keep your blood sugar level down at night, so all you are burning is fat as you sleep.
5. Dine early. Eat your last meal a couple of hours before bed time. You should be a little hungry on rising - ready for breakfast, not still full from the night before.
6. Run on empty in the morning. The body is forced to dip into fat reserves to fuel the activity.
7. Add resistance training. Weight training keeps lean muscle whilst your body is burning fat.
8. Remove excess salt. Eating too much salt in your diet can cause water retention - leaving you feeling and looking bloated.
9. Measure your progress. Get out the tape measure each week and record your progress. Chest, stomache at belly button level, hips and upper thighs. Keeps you accountable and on track.
