Getting Started with Pilates
There are two main ways to learn and practice Pilates.
Pilates matwork classes and Pilates studio sessions.
Pilates Matwork Classes
Pilates matwork classes are small group classes utilising your bodyweight as resistance and sometimes using small apparatus such as the theraband, foam roller and magic circle. Pilates matwork class sizes are limited to 4 and are organised on a school-term basis. Visit our timetable for class times.
Pilates Studio Sessions
Clients wishing to learn and practice studio Pilates begin their journey with an initial assessment. During this private session, lasting for about 90 minutes, your goals are established, and an exercise and health history questionnaire is completed. You will be familiarized with the studio and the equipment you be using and you will be introduced to some fundamental Pilates concepts and exercises.
Following your initial assessment, your program is developed. Most clients undertake at least 3 private sessions before starting to work semi-privately (1:3).
Personal Training Sessions
The principles of Pilates are the basis of all sessions conducted at the studio. Personal training sessions are available for clients for strength and conditioning and body sculpting sessions. Never a 'regular' session! Train on the GTS (Gravity Training System), use TRX ® equipment, power bags, kettle bells, stability balls, the BOSU, Bongo Board and of course free weights. Boxing for fitness sessions also available. A great way to stay motivated and learn some new exercises along the way. Come on your own or bring a friend or two. Maximum 3 per session. Completion of a Pre-exercise Questionnaire is required prior to the first session.
Studio Session descriptions
1 hour private session
Individual instruction and observation maximises the effectiveness of your time and gives you the chance to have undivided attention.
1 hour semi-private session
Available to clients who have been approved for self-paced work. Work under instruction in the studio with up to two other people.
Home Training
Weight loss and body shaping programs that focus on resistance training and a 'clean' diet. Get the body of your dreams without running yourself into the ground. Personalised programs with each day's exercises laid out for you - just do them and tick the box. Choose from a number of goal-specific programs: from surfers to brides-to-be, 'new to exercising' to 'outrageously fit' and everything in between. Great for the time poor - no fuss.
